The work emerged from a sitting for a full-length portrait and shifts portraiture from likeness to posture: the body appears not as an image, but as a state. The crouch is the standing figure folded inward — its verticality compressed into a ground-bound mass in which pressure and interior space draw close together. The cushion offers no protection from the outside; it is something to hold on to, and in holding on, a sense of safety emerges. What first reads as quiet beauty gradually reveals what lies beneath: support and pressure held in a single gesture.
